A packaged water chiller is a factory assembled piece of equipment that utilizes a refrigeration cycle to produce chilled water for circulation to a desired location or use. Packaged water chillers are used to cool large buildings. They are also widely employed in commercial and industrial processes. In the food industry, for example, they are used to supply chilled water in chicken slaughterhouses. Winterization process of sunflower oil also requires the use of packaged water chillers.
The main parts of packaged water chillers are 1. compressor 2. oil lubricating system 3. suction service valves 4. suction chiller vessel 5. water-cooled condenser
Here is an example of a packaged water chiller advertisement:
Water chiller down to O°C
These units are designed for chilled water requirements below +4°C, of some food industry applications. Serpentine coil evaporator, placed in a tank with axial propeller agitator, is designed in such a way that no ice is formed on copper coil down to water temperature of +1°C. The system can be safely used at temperatures below 0°C by addition of freezing point depressing agents or brine. Capacity of the refrigeration compressor is determined to meet the refrigeration load one to one as such units operate parallel to cooling process.
